How did you hear about the position and what made you decide to take it?
I lost my job when COVID started. I told my partner I no longer wanted to work just to work. Through prayer and meditation, it occurred to me that I am “uniquely qualified” to unselfishly help others, I am to pack into the stream of life, and that I should look for a position along those principles. Sure enough, I received a phone call saying I’d be perfect for this position!!
What are the responsibilities of the position?
The Office Administrator is the primary link between the Central Office and the Board, which has oversight responsibility for the smooth running of the Central Office. This requires many roles: accounting/budgeting, inventory/sales, emails/correspondence, tech/website, and so much more!
What do you like most about it?
Knowing that the collective work we do as a team fulfills A.A.’s Primary Purpose: to carry the message to alcoholics. It’s also been an incredible learning experience to see firsthand how A.A. runs as a corporation.
Have there been any surprises?
Every day! I think the biggest surprise was just how much thought and work it is to ensure we have meetings. Having never truly understood, I realized just how much I had taken these meetings for granted!
Have there been any opportunities for growth?
Each “problem” I’ve run into, I view as an opportunity for growth (though not always immediately – lol)! In all seriousness, being in this role has enabled me to continue in practicing humility, courage, and faith. It sounds cheesy, and cliche, but it is the absolute truth. I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity, and the wonderful and unique people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting.
