Each month we focus on a Step, Tradition, and Concept, and provide a quote from Bill W.

Step 6

Were entirely ready to have God remove
all these defects of character.

As they [alcoholics] are humbled by the terrific beating administered by alcohol, the grace of God can enter them and expel their obsession. Here their powerful instinct to live can cooperate fully with their Creator’s desire to give them new life.

Tradition 6

An A.A. group ought never endorse, finance, or lend the A.A. name to any related facility or outside enterprise, lest problems of money, property, and prestige divert us from our primary purpose.

The core of our A.A. procedure is one alcoholic talking to another, whether that be sitting on a curbstone, in a home, or at a meeting. It’s the message, not the place; it’s the talk, not the alms.

Concept 6

The Conference recognizes that the chief initiative and active responsibility in most world service matters should be exercised by the trustee members of the Conference acting as the General Service Board.

Next to the Conference, A.A.’s Board of Trustees should be the most influential group of world servants that we
have, and therefore we shall have to consider carefully the kind and degree of authority, responsibility,
leadership, and legal status the Trustees must possess in order to function at top effectiveness over
the years to come.
