Welcome Intergroup Representatives

The purpose of East Bay Intergroup is to Provide Service Activities

Intergroup Representative Service Description

The responsibility for maintaining the existence of the East Bay Intergroup (EBI) rests with the groups.  Therefore, each Group should name an Intergroup Representative (IGR) and an Alternate (Alt-IGR) to serve a specified term as the connecting link between their Group and EBI.

What is an Intergroup Representative?

To help best direct the actions of EBI and its primary purpose in carrying the message of recovery to the community; an IGR brings their Group Conscience to EBI. An IGR serves as a liaison between their Group, its Members, and the EBI Community.

Service Sponsor

A service sponsor is an alcoholic who has made some progress in recovery and performance in service who shares this experience with another alcoholic who may be just starting the journey, or possibly with someone that has been around a while.

A good overview on service sponsorship may be found in the pamphlet, Questions and Answers on Sponsorship (P-15), pages 25-27.  There it is suggested that, “A service sponsor is usually someone who is knowledgeable in AA history and has a strong background in the service structure.”

Individuals may feel that they have more to offer in one area of service than another.  A service sponsor presents the various aspects of service to the sponsee, and assists the sponsee in making informed decision(s).  Whatever level of service one performs, all is toward the same end: the sharing the overall responsibilities of Alcoholics Anonymous.

A service sponsor normally does not get involved in the work done with a recovery sponsor.

Anyone who needs a service sponsor or would like to be a service sponsor please see or contact the committee chair at email address: chair@eastbayaa.org

East Bay Intergroup Mission Statement

(December 5, 2020)
The Purpose of East Bay Intergroup Service Council is to provide service activities, functions, and programs which strengthen A.A.’s unity and spirit of the primary purpose while perpetuating the program of Alcoholics Anonymous in our community.

A service center office is maintained by Intergroup Service Council for the purpose of conducting ordinary A.A. business and to serve individual groups and A.A. as a whole.

This body is a partnership of community A.A. Groups, whereby all groups equally enjoy the benefits of its operation. Meetings, groups, register at their own request for the common purpose of sharing and exchanging information amongst themselves.

Responsibility of service activities is placed at the group’s level, and all service center activities are guided by the Twelve Traditions and the Groups’ will and conscience. Unity of purpose, thought, and deed is of primary importance in all East Bay Intergroup actions.

The continued advancement of the A.A. Program through the performance of service work is the ultimate objective of the East Bay Intergroup Service members.

Board Nominations

The EBI Board of Directors seeks members interested in service to apply for a Board position for the 2025-2026 term (Jan 2025-Dec 2026). This is a deeply gratifying way to help our community! We seek new members who have experience with accounting, budgets, and technological experience.
